A man was arrested for stealing cell phone

Paul Akpan of no fixed address was apprehended by a vigilante group as he was escaping with the stolen phones.
Prosecutor Yilkudi Dungji told the court that on March 2, one Ibrahim Gabriel and four others reported to the police that their cell phones were stolen.
“On the same date, a vigilante group led by one Haruna Adam of Gbassa village caught the accused with five cell phones in his possession and during interrogation, he confessed he stole them from their owners,” the prosecutor added.
He said the accused also confessed during police investigations that he committed the crime and committed an offence punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
Based on the confession, the prosecutor asked the court to try him summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Magistrate Khadijat Mustapha sentenced him to three months imprisonment or to pay N3,000 as fine
