THE police yesterday arraigned five persons before an Abuja magistrate court for allegedly forging military discharge certificates.

The accused persons, Doom Ajaver, Samuel Leva, James Ayongu, Emmanuel Aver, David Zeve and Tajudeen Oyejola were accused of conspiring to forge military certificates.

Prosecutor Adamu Abdullahi told the court that, Doom Ajaver conspired with four other accused persons and forged military discharge certificates, adding that they have been using it to collect monthly allowances from the Military Pensions Board.

He said one Ayodele attached to the board reported to the police and they were caught on January 28 after defrauding the board of huge sums of money yet to be estimated.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them, while their counsel requested for bail.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Oyewumi granted them bail in the sums of N 150,000 each with sureties in like sums.

The magistrate ordered that the sureties must be civil servants of not below grade level 07 and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with fixed addresses.

The case was adjourned to February 12 for hearing.
